learning french ( part 2)

After we learn about the very basic things in French, now we are going to talk about tenses in French.

The first tense that we are going to learn is "Le Present".

In French, le present is the only way to show something or an action that is happening now.
Le Present is used when :
1. Action en cours ( something happen )
Example : Les gens se prominent dans le jardin ( People walk in the garden)

2. Action dans un future très proche (for something that will happen in a few time later)
Example : Je reviens dans cinq minutes ( We will meet in 5 minutes )
3. Action Habituelle ( Habitual Activity )
Example : Les enfants prennent quatre repas par jour. ( Children take the meal 4 times in a day )
4. Vérité générale ( General Fact )
Example : La neige est blanche ( cloud is white )

In French, the verb in every tenses and subject has different form. The differences can be seen in the examples bellow.

1. (+) Je parle Français ( I speak French )
(-) Je ne parle pas Français ( I don’t speak French )
(?) Est-ce que je parle Français? ( Do I speak French? )

2. (+) Tu parles Français ( You speak French )
(-) Tu ne parles pas Français ( You do not speak French )
(?) Est-ce que tu parle Français? ( Do I speak French? )

3. (+) Il parle Français ( He speaks French )
(-) Il ne parle pas Français ( He doesn’t speak French )
(?) Est-ce que il parle Français? ( Does he speak French? )

4. (+) Elle parle Français ( She speaks French )
(-) Elle ne parle pas Français ( She doesn’t speak French )
(?) Est-ce que ne parle Français? ( Does she speak French? )

5. (+) Nous parlons Français ( We speak French )
(-) Nous ne parlons pas Français ( We don’t speak French )
(?) Est-que nous parlons Français ? ( Do we speak French? )

6. (+) Vous parlez Français ( You speak French )
(-) Vous ne parlez pas Français ( You don’t speak French )
(?) Est-que vous parlez Français ? ( Do you speak French? )
(vous is used for formal conversation)

7. (+) Ils parlent Français ( They speak French )
(-) Ils ne parlent pas Français ( They don’t speak French )
(?) Est-que ce ils parlent Français ( Do the speak French? )
(masculin)

8. (+) Ells parlent Français ( They speak French )
(-) Ells ne parlent pas Français ( They don’t speak French )
(?) Est-que ce ells parlent Français? ( Do you speak French? )
(feminin)
